JACKSON, Miss. – Jordan O’Neal recorded his first double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds, but the Jackson State men’s basketball team fell to the Prairie View A&M Panthers 71-62 Saturday night at the Lee E. Williams Athletics & Assembly Center.
O’Neal had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Tigers (7-10, 3-1 SWAC), who had two players score in double figures. Ken Evans Jr.added 19 points, and Zeke Cook added seven points and 12 rebounds on the night.
Cook pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace the Jackson State offense, which grabbed 12 boards and turned them into 10 second-chance points.
Jackson State did a great job disrupting Prairie View A&M’s (7-10, 2-2 SWAC) shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. O’Neal’s three rejections led the way individually for the Tigers.
How It Happened
Jackson State started out the scoring by going on a 6-0 run, culminating in a bucket from O’Neal, to take an early lead with 18:35 left in the first half. The Tigers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 31-26.
Prairie View A&M kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 34-28 advantage before Jackson State went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 34-33 with 17:18 to go in the contest. The Panthers responded and outscored the Tigers the rest of the way, ending the game with a score of 71-62. Jackson State made the most of five offensive rebounds to tack on six second-chance points out of 36 in the period.
